Slot Loading Drive Vs. Tray
Guys, I noticed that the new Meridian units: G06.2, G08.2, G92, G95 & G96 all feature Slot Loading drive mechanisms instead of the usual Tray Loading mechanisms used in the majority of CD players. Yes, I know that Slot Loaders have been in car audio for years but IME, this is a first for dome.

- Question: Q: Tray loading VS Slot Loading What is the diference between the slot loading model and the tray loading model? Is the case different or does it just have a different cowel on the face of the drive?
- Get the slot load, they're awesome, my pioneer 10X dvd drive, although a bit noisy, is much better than using any tray loading drive, it takes much less time to push in a cd than to place it in delicately, I couldn't go back to a tray load. Misza,Jul 19, 2001 #11 steventm7Member.

- This is because Apple uses a slot-loading drive on all Macs. My personal preference is Tray-Loading because my try-loading drive can read 80 mm discs and if there is a power outage, I can retrieve my disc without having any trouble and put it to use in my laptop.

No they don't, most transports are made of plastic, and some cheesy plastic clamping system. If you want a good transport system you have to search for well made ones ...Like the Esoteric Verdes Neo drive is an example of how good a transport can get...there are others too.The goods ones use Aluminum or a combanation of plastic and aluminum. Slot loading means nothing as to the quality of the drive. The best drives I have seen use a drawer. I am not seeing any trend you speak of for slot loaders.
